So you want to know about the man behind the legend? Are you sure? You might be let down. I’m pretty ordinary. Kinda weird, but pretty ordinary.
I was born and raised in Austin Texas and graduated from the University of Texas with a BFA in Studio Arts. I was exposed to the different mediums for creating art and was drawn to creating works from the various types of wood. After graduating I packed my 55ft trailer of tools and headed to the southern end of the Rocky Mountains in Jemez Springs, NM. It’s a quiet town nestled in a valley an hour outside of Albuquerque. To find the Jemez, it’s a bit outside of the city, but always worth the drive. The distance is a reminder that all things wonderful take time to reach.
Immersing myself in the natural elements every day have brought a grounded sense of purpose to my work. Finding bear prints in the dirt outside my front door, catching a glimpse of a mountain lion in the brush as I sit on my deck in the evening, or chasing an elk out of the garden remind me that my connections run deep, if only I pay attention.
It is the attention I give to each piece that I feel resonates most. I hope that when you see and feel my work that it shows you the journey, and complete mindfulness used to create it. The art communicated as furniture, wall hanging, or musical instrument, intuitively fits the space in which it resides or the owner that carries it along for their journey. I believe this unity helps to keep the connection we all know to be the base of our very being.
As I continue to create art in my wood shop, I find new ways to connect this beautiful medium to others with pieces I design or customize on request. I am always looking for a new challenge on how to integrate my craft into your connection to art, life, everything and everyone.
