The Range Cafe | Multiple Locations

The Range Café has been a local favorite since 1992, when Matt DiGregory and Tom Fenton opened the Bernalillo location. They have expanded over the years, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7-days a week at six locations, including Bernalillo, Los Lunas, and four in Albuquerque (see below for addresses and contact information).

The atmosphere is contemporary Southwestern artsy. Lots of color and things to look at. The service is more friendly than fancy, creating a familiar, comfortable atmosphere that complements the “comfort food.” Prices are reasonable. Portions are huge. Pace yourself or split a plate with a friend, because it is easy to eat yourself into a food stupor at the Range. I have done it many times.

The menu is a mix of American and New Mexican standards, or as they describe it on their website “ordinary food done extraordinarily well.”  They aren’t exaggerating. Popular menu items include huevos rancheros, meatloaf, country fried steak, burgers, green chile chicken egg-chiladas, as well as blue corn rellenos, tenderloin, pork chops, blackened salmon, and much more. It is a large menu. Everything is made to order, with locally sourced ingredients. The beer and wine list is also stacked with local vineyards and breweries.

Not only is the menu stacked with delectable, filling options, they have a bakery case featuring an overwhelming array of homemade pastry and pie temptation. Save some stomach space (if possible) or plan to take one home. My favorites are the strawberry/cream cheese puff pastry, pecan rolls, and cream puffs.
