Description
These asymmetrical turquoise and apatite earrings from Jack Boglioli’s Opulence Collection. They are designed to be bold and eye-catching. Jack applied a patina to the surface of the finished frameworks. He did the binding and weaving with fine silver, without a patina, to add contrast. The stones are bound and woven in place using Jack’s signature “Boglioli Method.”
Design Details
The asymmetrical turquoise and apatite earrings are about 35 mm tall (1 3/8 inch) by 16 mm wide (5/8 inch) at the widest point. The lever-back ear wires are sterling silver.
Turquoise
Turquoise is a form of hydrated copper and aluminum phosphate. It tends to form in dry desert areas deep underground. Turquoise has been a part of human adornment for thousands of years. Archeological evidence suggests that Chinese artisans were carving it as long ago as 3000 years or more. Also, it is a birthstone for the month of December. Apatite
Apatite is a widely occurring green mineral, consisting of calcium phosphate with some fluorine, chlorine, and other elements. Jack chose to use it in this design for it’s attractive bright green color. Follow the link below if you want further information about apatite.
About Jack Boglioli’s Opulence Collection
The pieces have a light feel to them. Bright, with vivid color and contrast. Most of the stones are faceted. As a result, the pieces catch even more light and brightness.
All of the pieces in this collection are inspired by a larger piece that Jack created for the 2018 Arts Thrive Exhibition and benefit at the Albuquerque Museum. He made an entire series based on a similar aesthetic based on the enthusiasm for the original piece. The one-of-a-kind piece called “Opulence No. 1” can be seen on his Art Jewelry page.
