Description
Carved by hand by Hopi/Laguna artist Ray Jose, this beautiful kachina doll showcases a shalako. The shalako is considered the most magnificent kachina, towering seven feet high and considered the bringer of rain. A large wooden ladder protruding from the top of a kiva rests to one side of the shalako. The ladder was left completely unadorned, featuring two rungs. The shalako stands tall, its body covered in carved feathers and head surrounded by a large tableta painted in turquoise, yellow, red and black. Small feathers are attached to the shalako’s forehead, while black hair runs down its back.
Dimensions: 10 3/4″ tall x 4 1/2″ wide x 3 1/2″ deep.
