With diverse terrain ranging from desert to alpine, New Mexico provides endless options for outdoor enthusiasts. The Outdoor section is a work in progress, encompassing scenic road trips, natural wonders and unique activities and experiences.
In New Mexico the cuisine and the culture are inextricably intertwined. The Flavor section is being developed to share the unique culinary traditions with the world, including recipes, restaurants, specialty foods and, of course, Hatch chile.
Gathering of Nations is held the last weekend of April in Albuquerque. It is the largest pow wow in the world, with participants from over 500 tribes throughout North America. In 2017, the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico, with multiple language groups and traditions, performed the Buffalo Dance together to demonstrate support and solidarity with Standing Rock. I

Balloon Fiesta 2017
There is nothing quite like the sight of balloons taking flight before first light, like colorful fireflies illuminating the sky. The International Balloon Fiesta is the best time to witness this phenomenon on a massive scale, as close to 1000 balloons take part in the nation's largest balloon rally, which is held annually during the first week of October.

For the past 25 years, Ra Paulette has been carving out man-made caves from the sandstone hills of New Mexico, and then sculpting these spaces into works of art he calls wilderness shrines. They are unbelievable works of art by a quiet, humble man that simply enjoys shaping beauty from the stone.
