Earl’s Family Restaurant has been a go-to in Gallup for more than 75 years. What started as a small hamburger joint, with a couple of booths and four stools, has expanded over the decades to accommodate the volume of daily diners. With seating capacity for 382, the size of the restaurant and number of tables is a testament to the traffic they get 7-days a week.
A Gallup “Go-To” for Comfort Food
Earl’s serves American and New Mexican “comfort food,” like enchiladas, burritos, huevos rancheros, burgers, sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, pancakes and french toast. Their in-house bakery is known for cinnamon buns, rolls, and pies. Additionally, if you are craving a frybread fix while you are in “Gallup,” I recommend the Indian Taco or Frybread green chile burger.

It is best to arrive as hungry as possible, because the portions are generous. Earl’s breakfasts provide enough fuel to keep you going for the day. Additionally, the coffee is good and the servers are attentive in terms of keeping the caffeine drip flowing throughout the meal. If you don’t have a big appetite, most entrees are large enough to share with a companion.
Like many of the good options in Gallup, Earl’s gets busy during peak hours. However, don’t let the full parking lot deter you. The dining room is expansive and the staff and kitchen know how to accommodate a large number of diners daily.
