The history of Andele Restaurant starts in 1996, when Phil Schneider and his daughter Andrea opened a take-out window with a limited menu. They quickly earned a reputation for their signature dish, tacos al carbon made with chicken, beef, and pork slow-cooked on a spit in front of a wood-burning oven.
As the restaurant’s popularity grew, it relocated to its current location in Oñate Plaza, with space for multiple dining rooms, two banquet facilities, a mercado, and a tortilleria. The latter has become a feature, providing customers with the highest-quality, preservative-free corn and flour tortillas. The difference in flavor is dramatic. Additionally, the family purchased Ol’ Gringo Chile Company to sell their salsas in retail locations.
Andele’s Dog House
Andele’s Dog House was opened in 2011 to add a patio dining concept. When you walk in, the interior dining area is nominal. The patio is spacious, with large tables far enough away from one another to hear your companions when the restaurant is busy.
Andele’s Dog House was one of the first dog-friendly restaurants in the Las Cruces area, specializing in Sonoran hot dogs and other delicious Mexican Street food. Everything on the menu is good, but my “go-to” items are the street tacos or the green chile cheeseburger, depending on appetite. If you are in the mood for a few beers with friends, the Dog House is still a solid choice, with a bottomless chips & salsa bar using the aforementioned fresh corn tortillas and a selection of Andele’s salsas.
